Swallowed UP

by Clara Klein

Swallow me up, God
I’m ready to surrender.
Unafraid I place myself
in the mouth of the godhead
and beg him to consume me.

Holy Spirit overtake me and
blot out all intrusive thoughts.
I don’t want to keep trying
to find purpose on my own.
Soften my hardened exterior so that
I can succumb to your will.
I desire to be dissolved
in solution and become part
of something greater. For
with dissolution
comes absolution,
I am reconstituted and
made pure again.

Swallow me up, take me over,
overwhelm me, wash over me,
cover me and gather me home.
Envelope me, protect me,
absorb me into your being so
I become part of your essence.
Overtake and steady me,
set me upright and
ready to ascend.

Lord help me to
acquiesce to your will.
I long to just let go and
drown in the river of your love,
ever-flowing, carrying me away,
transporting me to paradise –
assimilating to the origin,
the source of viriditas
and giver of life.

As you swallow my earthly corps,
immediately it dissipates
and releases my spirit back
into your universal omnipotence.
Then join me to your empyreal fire
as I melt into pure light.
