Forgiveness is like a mustard seed. You plant it, and it grows over time. It starts small, beginning with a simple gesture of not dwelling on the hurt, making a conscious choice to stop ruminating on the painful past. Forgiveness is not easy, and the Lord does not demand immediate results; rather, He asks us to obey His word and to make a decision to take a path towards forgiveness. Then, He takes us on a journey to teach us how to forgive.
That journey often resembles a therapy session, where the Holy Spirit illuminates the broken parts of your heart and reveals why you hold on to unforgiveness. He brings healing to those broken areas, and eventually, the path to forgiveness becomes much easier. He takes it one day at a time. He knows you are not a robot; He understands that you are a human being with real feelings living in a broken world. God sees your wounds and comes in with stitches, bandages, and soothing oil to heal them. He does not expect you to simply get over it. He wants to help you overcome it by walking with Him in obedience and full surrender. And that is a daily choice.
