The heart-felt council of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense. – Proverbs 27:9

Teach me your ways, O God
Let each hour show that I have not wasted it,
That I’ve made it my own and fully tasted it!
Whether it be sun on storm
Let me be faithful in my tasks to do,
Make each day a blessed gift
One of praise, from me to You!

Teach me your ways, O God
Let me anticipate with joy
For you in all your power employ,
Constant change in natures list
Winter’s chill; soft days of mist.

Variety in people too
The way we look, the things we do
The constant theme in mankind’s song,
“We have to try to get along!”

Make me receptive to the fact
The way that people speak and act,
And my response, if with good will
May my intent for peace fulfil.

Teach me your ways, O God
Make me a friend
And when my day is done
There, at the end—

I will not rue one day
Need not repine,
When offered someone’s hand
I offered mine.

Ada Anne Ohnezeit

Ada Anne Ohnezeit, born in 1925, is a lifelong resident of Western Pennsylvania and has been reading and writing poetry since her youth. Throughout her life, Ada has written many short, humorous verses for friends and family and longer compositions about life, death, family, faith, nature, and holidays. These works have been enjoyed only by loved ones of all ages and the church community, as she has never submitted her work for publication until now, in her 99th year. These works submitted were chosen out of 64 currently ready for review.
