Marriage of Faith and Sight

The tulips woke me from the front yard,
the color of sun, a pleasant alarm.
Yesterday they teased me with a hint,
so barely there I could have talked myself out of it,
but today the verdant green has peeled away.

Why must I run to see, to witness what I know is there
when I have seen before and have no doubt.
I dare not try to answer for fear I might decide
that knowing is seeing, perhaps a kind of faith.

No, today I attend the joyful marriage of faith and sight.
